NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month is coming to an end soon! Babe you finished your 50,000 words?
Here are a few things I’ve learned through completing NaNoWriMo!
1 – You really just have to write for your life
What I mean by this is that, instead of pressing back space and making all the words look super pretty and appealing, you really cannot or have the time to do this. You just have to write and it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make sense. I tell myself this all the time whilst I resist the urgent need to spell ‘the’ correctly.
2 – You can go back and edit later! Preferably 6 years after this!
That’s a joke by the way. But after finishing writing this book through the wonderful thing that is NaNoWriMo – you really feel this way. But it’s true for the most part – go back and edit WAY after – you won’t get any brownie points for specialised words and pretty fonts.
3 – It has helped me improve as a writer.
Of course it does, it makes me feel (and many others) accomplished that they could write so many *and I mean SO MANY* words in just one month, 31 days. But I really have improved, both in how I write and the productivity I have whilst doing said writing.
I have finished three books in three months – all rough drafts of course, but my productivity is going through the roof and it’s a long stretch but it all started from NaNoWriMo.
4 – To laugh
I have never laughed so much at my writing than I have done with NaNoWriMo.
Weather it be with friends doing word sprints and out hands hurting afterwards from trying to beat one another *yes, we are adults ha!* or just looking back and laughing at the badly written excuse of romance, and the plot deceive that led to that badly written prose.
I could really go on but I think that you should really try out NaNoWriMo if you are starting out with writing or even if you are a seasoned writer… mmmm seasoning *Que Homer Simpson voice*
The main thing to take away from it all is to just enjoy what you are doing – enjoy writing, enjoy gaming, enjoy eating a whole jar of nutella whilst watching sad films about dogs… too real?
But honestly, enjoy life and where ever it may take you.
Hope you have a lovely day,
